Hi, could use some advice from the community.

I have a Trendnet 300mbps Wireless N ADSL Router

The router is installed in the spare room of my house. I get pretty good wireless connectivity overall except in my lounge, where the xbox and media centre pc are setup. (eg copying a few files to the media centre pc takes ages and I cant stream videos properly at all.)

I want to improve the network range of the router so that those parts of the house are covered as well as the rest of the house.

Would I be able to acheive this if I installed the TRENDnet 10dBi Outdoor Omni Directional Antenna on the wall close to the ceiling in the same room as the router (I dont really want to install the antenna outside of the house). I know its called on outdoor antenna, but the manual also talks about indoor installation.

The other alternative I have is just to run a network cable from the router through the roof to the lounge.

However I would prefer to acheive the same result wirelessly (if possible) and I am hoping the antenna will do that.

For streaming, I would just run a wire through the roof with a tiny switch for the xbox and HTPC. Stable speeds for HD content. LAN wire is cheap.

Agreed, but due to the small size of my roof and my lack of DIY skills I would probably make a hash of it, so I am going to have to 'call the guy'. But good to know so far the consensus is wired.

Does your router and HTPC have gigabyte LAN?
No. The router is an Wireless N router, so theoretically supports up to 300 mbps. And the wireless usb plugged into the htpc is
Wireless N as well.

Maybe I have not configured things to run on that range. How would I check? (Not the brightest when it comes to wireless tech)

Its all good and well putting the better antennae on the router the problem is the receiving antennae on your devices, get a small repeater and put it as close as possible to the media area while still getting good signal, make sure what you buy can also get a better antennae attached to it just in case

i am very happy with powerline.

Thanks. decided to try out poweline networking with one of these.

Got some pretty good reviews on the net and its going to cost me the same as it would to get a guy to install a wired point.
