Hi Is there anyway to identify which program/application causes the dial up requests to pop up at odd times (but frequent). Currently I just delete these.
Using XP Prof SP2, Firefox etc...
I am soon moving from dial up to adsl & don't want some application to use up my allowance without me knowing.
Thanks

You can check your CPU usage by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL. It should Identify the culprit. However some go into Hiding the Moment you enter the Task manager. It's dialers u have on your PC and best is to get a Anti Dialer programe and scan your PC.

Edit: You've been watching to much porn... :)

Well, I guess technically they wouldn't request to dial up, they would then automatically use the broadband connection.
If they are honestly legit apps, then fine, but if not I would suggest a full reinstallation after backing up critical data. The broadband revolution has spawned mass proliferation of covert applications all designed to elegantly utilize your connection. Also a solid firewall would facilitate blocking these requests.

Go to IE > Tools > Internet Options
OR Control Panel > Internet Options

Connections

Never Dial a connection

None of which helps once you get a broadband connection.

I suggest using something like spybot S&D to check if there's anything funny on the system.
