So we're looking at remodelling the kitchen, and considering replacing our current hob with an induction one, specifically the Smeg.

We have el-cheapo cookware at the moment, so replacing those with induction pots and pans won't be a massive loss.

Anyone here using this type of hob? Your experience with it? Have you noticed any benefits over conventional hobs?

Thanks

its faster and more efficient than your usual electric. Personally i would go the Gas and induction setup. have a bit of both

Also the smeg looks fantastic but not sure on the quality vs rand value compared to other brands.. but if you can afford it and ur minds made up... hey why not, i just thought that i would mention it.

Hi

I have gas and induction - would recommend both.

Also, Smeg is not bad, but multiple other options at that price point.
Check www.atag.co.za

Really nice - functionality is awesome.

When buying gas though, make sure that the gas model can be ignited by a match in case of power outage. Several brands cannot be lit manually if the power is out.

Induction will need different pots possibly to what you have............

Nay for induction, yay for gas

Induction, even though it's faster/efficient than normal stove tops, has the same caveat as normal stove tops, it can't simmer for **** (temperature goes up and down as it tries to maintain an even temperature, something gas doesn't have problems with)

Gas stove top with an electric oven if you want to have a combination of both, but I'd go all gas if you can.

Plus you can cook when (not if) the power goes out.

If you got the pots but I would rather go for gas or a gas induction combo

That's my problem with it. We have a beautiful range of AMC pots that were given to us as a wedding gift. But its the old variety with the non-induction base. I'm looking at gas instead.

I'm jealous. one day when I grow up, I want a gas stove :D

induction has better control than gas... i know the exact settings that i need for a particular dish. also you can tune induction lower than most gas hobs...

That stuff will give you cancer.
