Hello everyone,
I hope this is the correct thread to ask on. I work for cement manufacturer and one of my biggest headaches currently is on the cement packing machine. We have a check weigher that basically writes out the exact bag weigh with a time stamp to a "black box", on the same check weigher there is a rotary encoder that is set (Calibrated) to match the bags of cement coming over the scale. This output is then fed to a PC with custom software containing bag weight, time stamp and the spout number from which it was packed.
The packer has 8 individual controllers (Unipulse 701s) and the software on the PC then needs to adjust these individual controllers to get the desired 50kg bag weights.
The problem is that the existing system is unavailable almost 40% of the time, so our production records get lost and the weights do not control correctly. (SQL database errors and other company IT policies etc. that's the biggest burdens). The check weigher still functions and we reject over weight and under weight bags in this case, but the weights can vary a bit.
Is there anybody in the industry that can either program a more robust software like this? Preferable to interface to our existing SCADA system (ABB 800xA).. Yes, I can probably go through the same local company that supplied the existing system, but the software was outsourced to an international company, so local support is needed as our time zones is very miss matched, hence looking for a local support.
