Hi

Ok I think my pc has been infected by a trojan. I have windows firewall running but I can't seem to find the settings so that it doesn't let ANYTHING access the network without my permission first. I.e. I want to allow permissions from scratch.

I have AVG 8.0.176 running but that's a useless program that can't find anything anyway.

I have also just downloaded PKTfilter, which was roughly 270kb, and when I ran it, a dos-type box popped up and disappeared again. So I'm thinking that could be another trojan?

I checked my task manager and can't see any funny processes running under my current user (only one logged on).

Any advice on how to make sure?

P.S I suspect that the first trojan got onto my system via a link that I accessed, which was straight to a certain IP address. I cannot confirm its security.

HELP PLEASE! Thanks.

Spybot Search and Destroy .......... just to confirm anything is there. If there is an infection, I remember a thread or two here in this section that had a good step by step for removal.

The list is endless ...... I've had me some terrible nasties before. If in doubt about the links, it goes without saying don't click on them.

Yeah. Bit late now... I don't really mind the viruses and the spyware etc because that can be done away with. I just hope somebody didn't get into my computer.

Best thing of all is last night I didn't even have a firewall running. * sigh *

Any idea how to reset windows firewall permissions?

You can find the Windows firewall (advanced settings) somewhere in the Control Panel. Or that is only in Vista, I think.

Yep. Must be. Couldn't find anything in control panel. Only thing I can find is the log file. But that's pretty pointless seeing as my FW was off last night.

I wouldn't trust windows firewall ....... get another one. I use Sygate but there is Comodo, Netlimiter and a few others that people find reliable.

So far, 3 keyloggers found, as well as 2 other threats, both found by Spybot. No idea how to remove them though.

If I have to go to the location, I won't be able to delete them. I have some virus that prevents me from seeing hidden files.

eish, that's out of my knowledge league bru ....... I could suggest stating your problem on MajorGeeks forums, they've been helpful in the past. The reason I suggest them is that it's a wee bit quiet here and you may not get the help soon.

No worries. Will just reset all my passwords. Run another (pointless) AVG scan, finish the spybot scan, install the Sygate I just downloaded and all should be (fairly) well.

No point in trying to find log files of what was done, and whether someone did infiltrate my computer, as I am far too noob for that sort of thing.

However since I'm not finding any trojans or worms, I doubt that that is or was the case.

I would highly recommend not just carrying on with the threats still present  You must remove them ....... try AdAware to scan and remove stuff.

yeah but you said '2 other threats' so I assumed Spybot couldn't identify them ......... no worries if it did.
