I applied for ADSL today and was told that my current InfinitCall will be cancelled automaticaly. Why I asked. The Telkom customer service person explained that they will loose money if InfinitCall remains active while you also have ADSL. I asked her if they will cancel InfinitCall after the ADSL line is installed (2 or 3 months later). She said no. Which means that while I am waiting for ADSL to be installed I cannot do some serious downloading/browsing etc. Not unless I am prepared to pay normal off peak call charges.

I thought that InfinitCall applies to normal voice calls as well as internet usage.

So currently I am being scrwd twice. By Telkom and Mweb. Unfortunately I am a MWEB subscriber which means I am paying their insane high subscription rates as well.

I am sure there is a department at Telkom dedicated to inventing new ways to give their customers crap service for more money.

Dude, I don't know about this rubish you where told, but I had my infinit call during my 2 months of waiting, I allso had to manualy cancel the service afterwards (bearing in mind i wanted to have it canceled), it was not done automaticaly.

I concur with Vio. I also had Infinitcall and had to cancel it manually, since it would just be money down the drain as I wouldn't be using dial-up anymore. I fail to see how Infiniticall could make Telkom lose money on ADSL, since they're two totally separate concepts. Infiniticall isn't going to make your ADSL connection cheaper.

You should actually be thankful that she told you (all on her own!!) that it is gonna be cancelled... If she haven't and you thought you still have it...

I know one of the technicians at Telkom and will ask him about InfinitCall being canceled automatically when applying for ADSL. It did seem strange when the person at customer service told me.

Telkom customer service did not tell me this a part of their normal explanation of the ADSL service and process. I had problems previously where InfinitCall was canceled without me telling them to cancel. So I figured I will just tell them not to accidentally cancel it this time. That is when they told me that it will be canceled as soon as the order goes through because you cannot have ADSL and InfinitCall. Even though the ADSL service is not yet installed.

Maybe this policy is something new.

We've still got ours... and it's staying on the ADSL line, we double checked it'll be fine and then we're having it removed our second/interent line

Here are some of my thoughts on the subject of Infinitcall. This is what I SUSPECT is happening, although I am not sure.

We know that the poor Telkom salespeople are subject to quite stringent and regular performance reviews. They have to sell and activate a certain number of Telkom services a month. For example, they get into **** if they don't activate enough 'voicemail' services a month (they get warning letters etc).

Now what I think is happening is that the mid-level and upper management of Telkom is putting pressure on these people to stop selling InfinitCall. The more InfinitCall a salesperson sells, the more likely they are to get into trouble. Perhaps there is even a limit to the amount of InfinitCall they are allowed to activate a month - for example, if a salesperson activates more than 10 InfinitCall accounts a month, then they receive a warning letter.

I dunno, but I think this is what's happening. Hope this makes sense to others.

i know telkom is bad but Debbie2 thats just pure illigal, if 1 of the employees had to get 1 of these warning letters they would have gone to the press etc a long tym ago. Its possible but farfetched :(

thats most probably what they do!!!!!!!!

Silent_Bob, I know for a fact that Telkom salespeople receive warning letters for NOT activating enough voicemail accounts per month. I don't know for a fact that they receive warning for activating too much InfinitCall, but I suspect they do.

About Telkom employees going to the press- do you have any idea how badly Telkom scares their employees? They make then sign a contract, I'm told, which says that Telkom will fire and then sue any employee who talks to the press about activities within Telkom. This is what I have been told several times from several different employees (through no prompting by me).

I doubt that Telkom can warn people for accepting an order for a service that they do sell. I can imagine that certain sales targets should be met and a warning could be written for that.

But I wouldn't think that they could get into trouble for selling too many infinitcall accounts.

/me picks up phone

/me calls 10219

/me asks the consultant

/consultant replies "Ma'am this call is being recorded. Unfortunately I am not in a position to answer your question."

/me thinks this is very suspicious.

Several months ago I was headbutting with a Telkom 'Customer Service' branch manager. I sat in his office and simply refused to leave until my issue was resolved. While we were waiting for the lawyer to arrive, I started asking him soe difficult questions that made him squirm (to his credit, he never lost his cool). One of the questions I asked was why Telkom did not list InfinitCall under their "All services and Products" list on the website. He insisted that it was listed. I persisted in saying it was not listed. Eventually he opened up the website and then acted with complete shock when he could not find it listed there.

My point is that Telkom's actions around InfinitCall are VERY dodgy. They lie about it and tell different people different things. Why is it that some people are refused InfinitCall while others are not (not taking into account legit reasons why Telkom would refuse InfinitCall to some, for example if it is a business line or if the person has a SufferMore package)?

Sidenote: The poor Telkom guy I just spoke to said it was possible for me to get InfinitCall (this was before I asked him about employees receiving warning letters for selling too much of it).

At the end of the day, the conversation I just had I think pretty much speaks for itself.
