Yo ppl

Just got off the phone with Stefan from NoWire.co.za.
He confirmed that as of 1 April NoWire will be selling modems for cash, and MyWireless connections using both contract and pay-as-u-go pricing structures!! He also mentioned that NoWire is in fact Fastcomm's retail arm, so they have all the modem stock etc [:D]
He also advised me to call him or Chris Lemmer on 1 April to grab the launch specials - which he said will be good [:D][:D]

It gets better! I also asked him about other Sentech partners, and he told me that AutoPage will also be a partner - their launch date etc he didn't know. He did confirm that AutoPage will also be selling modems and connectivity packages.

All I can say is SWWWEEET [:D]

Call 0861 NOWIRE or visit www.nowire.co.za if u dont believe me [;)]

Thanks to Cerberus for the tip off [8D]

definetly part of fastcomm

hehe their sites are even made with the same template. [:D]

so u could prolly just contact fastcomm and enquire through them aswell

So will it be cheaper than Sentech? I doubt it. Probably the same.

I reckon the modem will be expensive anyway and that the prepaid will work out costing more. They will make you pay for not taking out the contract - like cellphones..

Would be nice if there'd be an option to rent a modem. Then many of us in dought can try MyWireless out for a couple of weeks.

I will still send in my signed contract tomorrow. I doubt the other options will be much better (barring the contract) and if they are then hopefully sentech will be reasonable about their pricing structure. They should reward people for taking the chance initially.

Anyways, it will only be a good deal if you can pick up the modem for under R1500 and pay R550 or less every month. I dont think thats going to happen though.

Also, I forsee they will have stock problems with the modems soon and I cant afford to wait and wait until it gets cheaper. I need access at home NOW so if they approve me then I will have a modem soon. Not at the end of april when they will (probably) get stock etc.

Plus I have seen it work in my home now so I'm keen to get it. In fact I cant wait any longer..

[:D]

Have fun Greedy...me - I'll hang on until 1 April...*must resist need for wireless*...[:p]

BTW I'm still trying to get info out of AutoPage as to whether or not they will be a partner - unfortunately so far everybody I get (all call centre) keeps asking me "MTN, Vodacom or Cell C" [;)]

Guess they didn't get the memo - or Stefan from NoWire was wrong about them...

"I know the Confirmed Sentech Partners"

That implies you know all of them... [|)]

I've gathered a bit more info from NoWire wrt unbundling, partners etc. According to Tim from NoWire, Sentech is basically going to stop selling the service and leave it to NoWire to handle the retail side of the service.
NoWire will be joined by AutoPage and IS in retailing MyWireless at a later date - when the partner agreements are signed and executed.
Tim also reconfirmed the estimated modem price of R3500 and unbundled packages all less R150 or so.
Also of interest is that NoWire will be opening retail outlets which act as head offices. They will look to create an agent network to take care of signal testing, call-out support, sales etc. using commission kickbacks.

In my mind the whole Sentech business plan is following the cellular model. When MTN started there was only MTN service provider. Then MTN SP was spun off to leave MTN proper to handle the network, whilst MTN SP competes with the other service providers. This is exactly what is happening with NoWire...

Lets just hope NoWire can provide better customer service/support than Sentech has thus far [;)]

Just to get this straight.. R3500 for the modem and then is it R500 or R550 for 128k. It makes a big difference since the R550 makes it more expensive than the 24 month contract while R500 is quite the same (and thus fair).

Do you know anything about prepaid yet? Or a 1 month contract?

No word on pre-paid yet...and yes the 12 month option of R550 pm unbundled will mean that the 24 month unbundled contract is cheaper overall:

Working on 24 months as a time period:
Current Sentech 128k: R650 * 24 months = R15600
Unbundled 24months 128k: R3500 + (R500 * 24 months) = R15500
Unbundled 12months 128k: R3500 + (R550 * 24 months) = R16700

So basically unbundling is not any major saving - something that is a bit irritating since unbundled options require a major cash dump for the modem upfront.
I would think that one should save money for forking out up front, I mean essentially Sentech is minimising their monetary risk as far as modem costs go with unbundled options, so surely pass that onto the consumer...[:(]

I guess we can hope that when the new service providers come on board, then maybe some price competition/subsidisation will occur.

When do the unbundled options become officially available? Only on the 1st april?

Will nowire work like Sentech?

If I can get away with not paying more then I will have to pile up the cash some how and take the risk. Its 15600 either way if you take the R500 for 24 months option.

Fortunately Sentech says about the area where my office is:

Planned: Lyttelton, Hennopspark, Elardus Park, Centurion, Samrand.

And if I click on the map, there is not even planned coverage.

That gives me a few months before I have to make a decision!
