Broadband Infraco (Pty) Ltd has been invited to apply for Electronic Communications Network Service (ECNS) and Electronic Communication Service accreditation by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA).

The invitation was extended based on a policy directive from Communications Minister Dr. Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri to ICASA to conduct the necessary processes and consider applications by Broadband Infraco (Pty) Ltd.

ICASA said in a statement:
“The application will have to be submitted by 20 April 2009 after which the Authority may decide to hold public hearings.
In the event that the Authority decides to hold the hearings, such hearings will be held on 20 May 2009.
The Authority will publish the application in the government gazette inviting interested parties to make written submissions,”

It may be of some interest to note that one of the few remaining working train lines in SA -- the COAL line from Richards Bay to Witbank is quite close to Richards Bay and EMPANGENI.

Now I wonder if INFRACO ( TransTel ) ever had any fibre on that line:confused

I suppose a good journalist would make a visit to EMPANGENI. They would also understand that EMPANGENI is on the rail link. ( to nowhere )
