Infrared Filters (IR) - Wanted

Hi All

Do you know maybe of local online stores or local shops that stock IR filters.

I am looking for a 77mm one.

I can get from B&H or ebay shops but if I can get locally for +- the same price that will be great.

Have you tried Outdoorphoto? I bought my Hoya R72 from them.
 
If this helps, what I have done is buy a matt box with 4 x 4 rotating filter trays. All my lens diameters vary, so went this route to accommodate my prime lenses. I bought a full set of IR filters and IR ND filter locally from media film services. All filters are tiffen and am able to combine various filters to compensate my stop and rotate my polarizing filter to bite... It's fast to change filters and the matt box helps for unwanted lens flares.. I recon I made the right decision.....

Thanks for all the recommendations so far. I will quickly contact OutdoorPhoto and see what they can do for me.

Film is the best.... Cant beat it...but digital photography is really convenient.. I personally still really like film and what you can do with it.. Love digital for the ease of use. Digital has made it so simple even my wife can take professional looking shots with no film education...lol

AFAIK there is a IR filter over the sensor that needs to be removed first.

There are lots of places that do the conversion - have a look at these guys http://www.lifepixel.com

I've got an old 400D that I've been itching to get converted but it aint cheap. :o

Yeah, I know a guy who did the conversion on an old Nikon D2x... He gets awesome results.
 
All digital cameras have a low pass filter over the sensor... Kameraz will definitely do the conversion. Usually this is made from crystal quartz, very effective as a IR filter.. You can actually do the mod yourself, but camera warranty will be void...

The problem is you need to have the filter off to compose and focus the pic. Then hope everything stays aligned and in focus when you put the filter back. I used a Sony F707 with the R72 for IR as it has a nightshot mode, which allowed TTL viewing through the R72.

... and critical focus is hard to achieve, since the focus plane for IR wavelengths will be shifted a little from the visible wavelengths. I wonder how well live view works after removal of the IR filter?
 
That I can work with because my long exposure filters I also cannot see. So already do focusing composing etc before I plug on the filters. I am used to ND 10 - 15 stops

In regards to the focus plane being shifted that I can try and compensate for. Will quickly try and do some reading on that.
