I'm working on automating my house, and what I need now is a device to connect to my pc that will allow me to 'record' infrared signals from my remote controls and then be able to play them back, so that I can turn on my home theatre, tv and DVD machine all with 1 macro.

I found this which does exactly what I want, but it costs way too much.
Unfortunately I don't have any experience with electronics so I can't build my own IR transceiver.

Any ideas where I could buy one of these for under R200 or so?

Thanks for the suggestions, but I what I really need is a place where I can buy a USB/serial infrared port that I can connect to my computer so that it can send and receive infrared signals to my TV & home theatre.

I've bought an infrared port from a computer dealer before, only cost about R100 at the time. It didnt look pretty, but it did the job that you are talking about (my company at the time set up an automated house for one of our bosses). I recall there were USB and ones that plugged directly onto certain motherboards. Check out the local sites (buycomputers.co.za, take2.co.za) or speak to a pc dealer if you can get access to an account

I am in search of something like this, does anyone have any ideas where I might be able to buy one online?

Thanks much!
