Yesterday I went out and bought a 42" Samsung Plasma at Game. PS42B430 to be exact. It will only be delivered later this week.

I have heard that I have to have the contrast and brightness on low settings for about 150 to 200 hours. Why is this necessary?

I was also told only to switch off the plasma TV with the remote so that its in stand-by mode. If I switch it off by the switch on the tv, moisture could build up inside the tv and this could be harmful.

What other precautions should I take when I start using it.

What does one use to keep the screen clean?

The reason for keeping the contrast low about 85% is so not to burn the screen just like the old crt computer screens. Also leaving it on standby the main reason is to increase the life span of some electronic components, the only thing is that it will still be drawing power while in standby mode. Contrast and brightness should never be used at full 100% at any time, This is the reason why an LCD is better than Plasma.

To keep clean, no chemicals just soft cloth you get with the screen. Unplug aerial and mains when lightning.
