Heya...

I thought it would be interesting to see just what madly priced hardware items are out there...
kinda like the opposite of the Hardware Bargains thread...

So... if you stumble across something so overwhelmingly overpriced that only Siphiwe Nyanda might want to purchase it... post it here.

Something I found just now... and mentioned elsewhere... to get this thread started...

Ok... thanks to the wantitall competition thread... I looked at a replacement Microsoft Trackball Optical... mine is still going strong but the USB cable us showing signs of weakness at the connector-join thing... and found this...

R 5,332.00 :wtf:

But a little more searching I found it for R1027.00 cheaper...

Another Microsoft Trackball for R 6,227.00

Want it All are generally expensive and the exchange rate doesn't help most of the time

You can always just replace/fix the USB cable. I've had to replace my Logitech MX500's cable once and I'm currently using a friend of mine's Microsoft Habu at work, where I cut and soldered the USB cable :)

You know... up until now... that had not even been considered! Why is the obvious always so elusive to me... ?

* goes off to butcher cable *

I hope for your part that you can open the trackball easily and that the cable is connected with a connector and not soldered onto the PCB.
It makes the cable replacement so much easier for someone who isn't all that technical. You can often just use the USB cable of a cheap (R50) mouse, but the connectors are often different.

Most mice, once opened up, have a 4 pin connector inside. No need to solder, just need to remove one cable and attach another. Well that was last I opened one. I generally don't go through mice (since the optical mouse days) and buy cheapo mice anyway so if it were to break I'd probably be cheaper for me to buy a new one but @ R6000 you can probably buy another mouse, take it's cable and attach.

why not just browse the incredible corruption website? Their prices are just for the rich. Seriously. Check the price of blank cd's there vs real pc shops.

can't quote people from this stupid phone. Why on earth would you buy a mouse for r6k???

WantItAll pull their prices from Amazon or some such. They will never expect to sell items that are available locally for cheaper. That's besides the point of their service.

Wantitall does have some crazy prices and it may be besides the point of the service but having things for insanely high prices doesn't do them any favours, no doubt some people went to their site saw a few crazy prices and ran for the hills lol.

Though I think the best thing about them is finding things that aren't easily available, also never had any problems buying something from them that they had to get, took a while but turned out fine in the end.

Just make sure the colour code on the usb cables are the same. :-) You don't want to swop data and power pins.
