Inside MultiChoice’s cool new offices

Well, I hope with the advent of netflix and android boxes they can still pay the rent in about a year or so.
..or wait I don't hope that, I hope those extortionists go under with just as much blatant fanfare actually.

offices try to look modern and inviting but still looks cold and very robotic

I got the same feeling when I looked at it. It's weird how something so smart could seem so depressing somehow.

A tipping point for price will come and online will evolve... This particular mansion of glory is for GOtv, the digital terrestrial temple MC hope the poorest of the poor come worship and tithe at for years to come.

Incorrect. Gotv was launched now, which accounts for all the branding and marketing materials in the atrium. The whole thing is known as MultiChoice City and houses all their subsidiaries.

While I dislike Multichoice as much as the next person, this argument can apply to any successful company. I got to see pics and info about many big SA IT firms in their annual IT careers fair at NMMU, and many of them have really nice premises. Gym, cafeteria, free food, crèche, squash courts, modern design etc. aren't uncommon.

Nice offices help attract and retain employees, and if done well also assist productivity. The Googleplex and Apple's new spaceship campus are both absolutely epic - do we deride those companies as a result?
Except that those companies are innovating all the time offering more value to their customers.
10 years ago you had endlessly repeated crap plus sport on MC and today you having endlessly repeated crap plus sport on MC.

Ultimately everything we pay for is to watch Messi score a goal.
The rest is all junk.

Correction: very few of the recent articles mentioning Naspers companies were press releases, if I recall correctly. I sourced and/or confirmed much of the information and wrote the articles.

Some of the information did come from previous comment that other journalists at MyBroadband asked for, but the bottom-line is that it is originally sourced, for your reading pleasure.

Won't deny that we know there is interest in DStv and MultiChoice. While the negative comments are predictable and entertaining, I'm not convinced all the interest we see on these types of articles is negative.

Not as predictable as MyBB's continual harping on about certain subjects has become though. The sheer number of Showmax articles (the vast minority of which added no new info/value) since before its inception is once such example of this.

Add to that the continual reprinting of other news outlet's articles when they deal with a favourite theme such as Eskom, racism, etc.

These sorts of things are shameless attempts at clickbait.

Just something to keep in mind :

The day will come when offices that cover huge expanses of m² will have to find ways and means to pay for, or to justify, any open and unused space. Because those open and unused spaces doesn't pay for themselves, they're actually a white elephant in disguise, a drag on profits.

And customer loyalty are absolutely uncertain in the times we are in now. What with the Rand going down, and other prices going up, a time will come when people will have to choose between food and entertainment...

Stopped mine DSTV 2 years ago , wonder how many customers they are losing or gaining LOL

I like your opposing view to the many who call it over the top and obscene. It never feels right to swallow a price hike in any service, regardless of the service is monopolised (e.g. City Power, Pikitup) or otherwise. The impending hike by MC will feel like a bitter pill to most even if it is within reasonable margins (which I doubt it will).

The view you pose is the reality of the modern corporate head offices or major regional centres. For a long time I have maintained that you cannot merely retain the loyalty and increase productivity of an employee with money. I spend 9 to 12 hours working week days. If I am not happy in my environment, I'll soon be looking for another employee who demonstrates their appreciation of its people.

I work in a fairly modern newly built building. The amenities and creature comforts aren't world class, but they certainly make me feel happy to work in the building. I do not have the best view out of my office (although it is likely to improve), but I am given sufficient privacy in an open plan environment to make me feel comfortable. A cafeteria and coffee shop on site add to creature comforts. And I am told that in the short and medium term new features will be added to improve my work-life balance.

I therefore agree that if MC want to retain employees and reduce their turnover, this is the sort of development that will make inroads into achieving this.

An olive bar, jislaaik. Why not just a sandwhich bar. Cheaper than olives...

Almost three times the cost of Nkandla!!!

What was wrong with their previous office?

When the guys of Soccernet presspas were here in 2010 , they said, there is nothing else like this in the world. As for subscribers and quality of subscribers, yes, thats why they're pushing for the cheap packages, and looking at the following link. http://www.dstv.com/topic/compare-packages-20150713?pos4_GetDstv_ComparePackages
So the rugby and cricket fans must carry the football fans...a bit of discrimination there. There is much more football on than rugby and cricket, yet...look who must pay premium to watch rugby and cricket, and other less watched sports. DSTV nailing the, lets call them rugby and cricket audience. Funny how they are allowed exclusive rights, its like SASKO goes and say no one else is allowed to make bread. Double standards by the competition commission. I should be able to watch what I want , where I want and how I want.
