Ive recently been inspired by a local Durban photographer and his photos, his name is Kevin Ross Goss, he shoots amazing portraits, heres a link to some pics he shot at oppiKoppi.. http://10and5.com/2012/02/16/oppikoppi-portraits-by-kevin-goss-ross/
I would like to learn how to acquire a similar effect in my photos, i have a studio softbox, can get friends to a late afternoon location, which would need power as i dont have portable power supply or flash box, what else would i need besides plenty of practice balancing the afternoon light with the softbox, couple reflectors....?

His name is Kevin Goss Ross... Took a couple snaps of us on new years. Very talented.

From the reflection on the water bottle it looks like he might be using an LED light panel but I've done similar shots with a speedlite and an umbrella I got from Pep for R20.

Can that be done post processing?

You could but you'd end up with a ****tier version of the picture than you'd think. Most photographers I know only relies on their camera/lighting setup for their pictures. You'd think the stuff is touched up/photoshopped afterwards...

I saw this photo's the other day, and something about them was bugging me. Today after looking at them again, I figured out what was bugging me :) These photo's remind me of ye olden day museum exhibits, with the way the lighting is in the background. Wonderful study of post modern human out of his natural habitat :p
