Instagram: turning amateurs into artists

There will be exceptions to any rule.
 
I wonder if there's a market for my food Instagram pics.

Cookie-cutter editing. There are so many awesome editing apps on mobile devices but most people tend to migrate to instagram or snapseed. :o

Who wants to see grainy old looking photos where you can barely make out who is in the photo? People are like sheep. I prefer a good HD photo

It made sense in the beginning when the iPhone camera was crap.
 
I def don't knock her success, but this sets another poor precedent in anything labeled as "modern art". Instagram is a cookie cutter app that anyone with a camera, compatible phone and thumbs can use (case in question), how it now inspires an art movement we will never know. The images look great no doubt, so do many "artistic" images you see on Instagram when you click on EXPLORE.

Sadly art in itself has become a hollow pretentious medium to showcase how much more knowledgeable or artsy/hipster you are more than everyone else (Note: Nothing to do with talent or bringing anything new to the table, you can just "sell" yourself better than the dozens of other people who can achieve the same things as you). Sad day for a person who actually appreciates art for what evokes emotionally than what I'm told I'm supposed to feel and see. To each their own :/

That aside, all the best on your exhibition Verashni, I might not like the idea of this whole "instagram artist", but i respect that you got this far and there might be people and a market for "instagram art" who'll appreciate it more.

It's because most of the cameras used are crap so they need to make the photos look better by applying crap filters to them....

I'm firmly on the side that feels Instagram is crap. It also ruins reality. With all the over saturated sunsets, and the like, that are posted, when you post a "true to life" image it disappoints most.
