I have a Nokia 5230 touch screen smartphone; does anyone know if I can install Android and replace the symbian os on this phone? If so, how to do it?

Thanks
S

Not a chance. Only possible on the Nokia N900. A quick google would've given u an answer...

PS the only way to get it to look like android is to use a desktop customiser like gDesk http://silentmuffler.blogspot.com/2010/02/nokia-5230-nexus-one-ui_8912.html

Gdesk is a real pain to set up though, and it may look kinda like Android if you set it up right, but the user experience is pretty terrible in comparison. If you want something closer to Android, try SPB Mobile Shell:

It's not cheap, and it may be demanding on your phone so use the trial for a bit first.

Maybe you should invest in an Android phone, it will be a huge upgrade from that awful Symbian experience that the old Nokias give.
