Install win7 on FW drive - possible?

After a bit of googling it seems it's not possible to install win7 on a FW drive (unlike mac os) but i thought I'd ask here in case anyone knows some way of doing it - I'm looking for the most painless method (if one exists). I'm out of HDD bays in my mac pro but would like to install windows 7 on it's own drive - not a partition.

I managed to get XP to install onto an external USB drive, I still have the modified install disk somewhere.
Haven't tried it with Win7 yet, but IIRC the problem with FW is with when the drivers are loaded in the boot cycle. So I could get XP to boot from USB, but not FW. I imagine the problem remains.
I've given up on bootcamp, parallels and fusion, and now run Win7 in virtual box and everything seems fine.
With a mac pro, you should have no problems with resources to allocate to windoze.

Thanks Bob.

Yeah seems like it's not possible.
Does virtualbox allow installation on a FW drive? If none of the VMs can do this I guess I'll just have to swap internal drives when I want to use windows.

I haven't tried it myself, but I think Bwana has.
Google seems to say that it is possible, see here and here.
