Hi there, can anybody please tell me how much telkom is going to charge me to install a adsl line for the very first time?

You can avoid all that by doing the following but it might have changed since I joined.

Get the line installed and activated by signing up for a calling plan like the Weekender and Evening plan as it usually comes with free installation unless you have a bad credit record after which you need to pay a deposit but still get free installation.

Once the line is installed then you can apply for adsl line from any service provider and after a couple of days your landline is adsl activated.

You can also do everything one time with Telkom by opting for a calling plan that comes with free installation and also applying for adls with the self install option. The technician will then probably do everything in one go but then you have your adsl line rental with Telkom but can always transfer it to another ISP if you wish.
 
Here is already a phone line installed but has been deactivated for a couple of years so how will it work?
 
If you in Johannesburg I would suggest going to the Rosebank store to chat to them. That guy got me https://secure.telkom.co.za/today/shop/home/plan/do-advanced-v-plan/ for R499 in February. It includes line installation and is only R10 more expensive than just the 4mb line.

So for an extra R10 I got free installation, a free router and 40Gb of data a month (which you can link to a sim card and now I have 40Gb of mobile data instead)

Installation cost will still be charged if you do take a package that does not include free installation.

A technician has to be dispatched which will get the line active by placing a device inside your residence to trace the line to the dp and then connect it. If there is a line already the actual installation would be very quick it's the appointment time and if there is a cable problem that could cause long delays.
 
How long does it usually take them to install the line. i completed my forms on the 24th and was told between 7-21 days. Is there an average perhaps? I want to take advantage of Afrihost December deal ASAP
