Any ideas on what to go for?

All I need is to be able to see (on the net) where my drivers are at any point in time. I'm not worried about the logbook for tax and all those other fancy things that come with some of the high end products

Thanks!

I think the best would be to go for Tracker. They are very good and you have the backup from the SAPS. This normally helps in the recovery time if something goes wrong.

Car Track
Netstar
Martix
Tracker

Matrix has a good vehicle management system.

Waste of money.

What happened those tracking companies does not recover ur car? Do they refund you?

I take it you don't have insurance either?

Lol dude. The chances of them bringing your vehicle back are far higher and you get cheaper insurance. Definitely worth it.

Whether you'd want a vehicle back after some ****er has had it's way with it, is another story though.

Is better to have insurance and if not forced to have tracking device just leave it like that. You only save r50 on insurance while paying over r200 for tracking device.

With most Insurance companies, you with a tracking system, only pay the basic excess if your vehicle is stolen and no additional excess. The additional excess is on ave 10% of the claim (market value of car)

There are basic approved systems which cost R79-R99 p.m. and therefore your statement is incorrect. Most insurers will give you 15% of you premium as a discount if you have a system installed. Sure if you have a cheap Citi Golf valued at R35 000 @ say R220 p.m. them your discount will not be much +- R33. But a R600 000 vehicles premium would save about R200 p.m. and the accepted unit costs from R79.

Sure, I do not believe the stats thrown around about 99% recovery rate etc but hey :
1) You don't have an additional excess
2) You get the discount (most of the time covers cost of tracking unit)
3) If you ever get hijacked there is a better chance
4) Who wants to pay a fortune for insurance being a grudge purchase

There is by the way a new wireless system which does not need any connection into your car and thereby no warranty issues and harder to trace in the vehicle - this is the R79 p.m. unit and is approved.

I have been in the Insurance industry forever, Almost 30yrs, and in my experience, I would rather have a unit then have regret if a member of my family went missing and I would hate to say "I should have" for such a serious thing.

As mentioned before if your vehicle is stolen do you actually want it back after the possibly used it for crime etc, but if someone was taken with the vehicle you surely would.

PS - A few garages have been busted taking exotic cars for joy rides whilst the vehicle should have been in for a service and "awaiting parts" - as a matter of interest.

I agree with ur analysis. It depends with ur risk profile if you need to pay additional excess or not. I will only put tracking device for a car costing $ore than r200k else I will buy a cheap phone , hide it at boot and some cool installation for power backup, use vodacom look5me stuff to locate my car. Won't cost a lot.

Hmmmm yes you can go out guns blazing to fetch your car.

I have a matrix mx3. Matrix have been giving me excellent service and the logbook feature is absolutely epic. A while ago I took a few wrong turns and landed up on my way to Katlehong. Someone from Matrix phoned me to ask if im OK because my vehicle is moving in a "red area" (I think thats what he called it). That was quite impressive. Also I save more on my insurance than what I pay for the tracking.

Have a look here: http://www.intertrack.co.za/costs.html

They have real time browser based monitoring from your pc and you cell phone. As many people as necessary can log into the account simultaneously.

The C-Track products of a similar price range work with pc based software that will only show you where the ignition was turned on or off. There is no browser interface you can use. I have heard the netstar and tracker products are the same.

The STD bank valuechoices newletter this month has a special for R88 (I think) for the netstar.
