SO
The powers that be in our complex have finally decided to look at getting fibre
Hopefully this can get going early next year and finally get installed

I will appreciate comments from people who live in complexes and have had fibre installed as to who they consider the best for the initial physical installation -- trenching / ducting / connection / splicing and so on

Which companies are -- OPEN ACCESS , Very knowledgeable , On time , Promises kept , Good quality of work , Active Backup , Complaints attended to.
We do not want to have something installed ( which will be long term ) that results in sub-optimal results / frustration / unhappiness !

WHO is the STRONGEST link that remains at the end ?

Seems you are in KZN, if you were in CPT, then I would say Octotel.

Is there anyone that has a -- BIG picture view of the whole story
ie Someone that can look on some sort of a digital map that will show ALL fibre installed in an area whether it is lit or not and whether it is intended for FTTH -- or something else
I know -- by actually watching the trenching and laying -- that there are MULTIPLE fibre trunk links approx 120m from my complex.
Fibre fibre everywhere but not a splice to dice

ISP's are lazy -- they just send you a list of a gazillion fibre installers and say -- check it out YOURSELF
NOT interested in that sort of approach :notworthy:

Anyone have any experience with Vodacom Fibre ?
Anyone know who is the point person for Vodacom fibre ?
Seems like there might be something close by -- BUT I cannot make head or tail of their coverage map ( NO legend )

Find out if vumatel, openserve, or other that lay cables in your area. Then you can use any ISP that resells their produsts.
Remember the fibre cable companies do not charge to lay cables in your complex or street. They do charge a once off activation and setup fee. If you opt to get free equipment then they often insist that you sign for 24months or you will need to buy your own equipment.

DO NOT approach an end user ISP like smart village and such. Those ones pretty much rent out the systems at a very high mark up. Simply not worth it.

In our area voda fibre resell vuma and openserve, depending who laid the cables in which street.

If you want expensive monopoly go with Vodacom. If you want cheap go open access like Vuma or Frogfoot.

If it's DFA fibre there then SADV might be able to help you with FTTH using those existing links.

One hears so many horror stories about SADV ....
Link Africa were also busy in the area -- I suspect they also run over DFA fibre ( the manhole covers are ALL DFA )
What a segmented and stratified industry -- one little piece of cheese for ALL the mousies !

Realistically, it is more a question of which fibre company representative will find your complex suitable enough for installation. You can do only so much as an individual - rest is up to installer companies.

Which companies are -- OPEN ACCESS ,
I talked to metrofibre guys and as per them, all companies have open access after 3 month period. I confirmed this with 2 ISP providers (kiklo and rocketnet)

It would appear that we fall into the -- terra-incognito -- as far as fibre installers are concerned
We must all be too POOR .........
I suppose you have already tried "FTTH near me" or "fibre near me" etc? Which companies come up in the search?
