Hi guys (and gals).

Firstly, apologies if this has been posted already...

I have always been able to install games on Steam by getting the game in question downloading on Steam. Then pausing it, exiting Steam and copying the game folder from a mate's Steam -> Common folder to my Steam -> Common folder. When Steam is restarted, it races through the download and the game is ready to play. This has always worked and has been a massive time saver in that I haven't had to wait for the game to finish downloading on my pc before we played it.

This doesn't seem to be working for Torchlight II. I got the download going, it created the folder in Common, but when I tried copying the rest of the game files from my mate's folder, the download just resumed on Steam and didn't run through as it usually does.

Has anything changed on the Steam front regarding their installation policy? Is this method I've described above no longer an accepted way of installing games purchased off Steam? Or are we missing something here?:confused:

Thanks

Exit steam not pause.

Also: New steam file format vs old might cause it not being picked up.

Try to complete a "Backup" of the game on the friends' pc, and then restore that backup on yours. It will pick up your steam license and should allow you to play no problems. Better than copy paste imo

well, where are the game files stored? Usually they are stored in steamapps/common. make sure you get the right folder and stick it in the right place on your computer.

That's not a bad idea. Torchlight II was subsequently downloaded and installed (and what a game!!!) but since it was 'only' 1.5gb, it was ok to wait for (took about 90 - 120min or so). My concern is obviously the bigger games. Will definitely give this a crack. Thank you.
