Hi,

I currently have a SD PVR installed. I sales rep at Makro indicated that if a have a SD PVR installed already, i just re-connect the cables to the HD PVR and Bob's your uncle. Surely it can't be "plug-and-play"?

You are going to lose a viewing environment, unless you set it up XtraView with the SD... Then you gain one.

You'll need a HDMI cable is you have a HD TV, plug in dish cable then power up.

pretty much is, if you not planing on using both decoders (xtraview) even then its not too much trouble

If you only need the one viewing environment then yes, just unplug the cables from the dish from your SD and plug them into the relevant inputs on the HD decoder, if you have other outputs to other rooms then same thing, for the TV you are directly plugging it into you will need an HDMI cable, or if you don't have a TV with HDMI, then just use the regular yellow, red & white cables, but thats not HD though

if you want to have 3 viewing environments you will need to setup extraview

That is correct. Simply plug and play! Just make sure you've got at least an 80cm dish by the time they switch to DVB-S2. But then again, MC claims not to have any "immediate" plans, which means you'll find out when they make the changes :D

I have a standard decoder and want to buy a HD PVR this week. How much can i expect to pay for installation ?

It depends on the nature of your house, the length and difficulty getting cables from the dish (which must face east) to your PVR. Do you have a dish and dual LNB? If yes, work on R 700, if no, then R 1200. But this is just my thumbsuck

Thanks. I am in a flat and the dish is not too far from my lounge. I am on extra view and have a dual lnb set up.

if already on xtraview and planing on keeping one of the decoders with your new HDPVR you just need a 2x4 multi switch (+/- R500 makr0,o game, Pnp hyper etc)
simple instalation
the 2 cables from the LNB go into the multi switch and 2 out go to the HDPVR and 1 goes to the second decoder and heart beat cable between the 2

you might as well DIY realy no hard work you might only need a little extra cables

+1 But, please do not pay R500 for a R120 multi-switch!

Did an install as well on Friday, I had a dish and a dual lnb, I paid R2500 for supply HD pvr and connecting my old decoder as an xtra view, they supplied about 150meters of cable. I think I probably spent a bit too much but I went with our local multichoice dealer and I did not have to do a thing. So far am enjoying HD. 1 question though on Friday i noticed that discovery hd the sound was loud and only on that channel I could not change the sound (the bar shows I’m turning the volume down but the sound stays the same). Now today since the channel shuffle its channel 112 StUni. Any one knows how to fix this error?

That channel only has a surround sound option, so the decoder volume is fixed. It is with all surround sound tracks, but other channels also have stereo tracks
Control the volume via your amplifier is you're using one, and look up volume relay

I see 112 is the same, I think they may add a stereo track to that... wait a few days

I HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP ME.
I have hd pvr 2. My neighbour also have hd pvr. I don’t have two cable but he does. Can we split his HD cable in two without affecting the quality or interference on his side?

Get a 2x4 multiswitch to split his 2 into 4, then you each take 2. Or just get a twin LNB...
