Hi
I have a dual boot system xp/vista. I am going to change the mobo/cpu as an upgrade. I will keep everything else as is. What will happen upon first boot and what should I do thereafter. I would prefer not to format and reinstall as you can guess.

thanks

Afaik, windows should boot but immediately complain about driver issues.

I've done it before and if the board is the same make as previous it may even go fairly hassle free.

Be sure to have your drivers around and it should'nt be too bad.

I have done this before:

  1. Go into Device manager and uninstall all the motherboard device drivers.Sometimes you'll have to reboot and then cancel the "Found new hardware" wizard to remove all the devices.
  2. Change motherboard and CPU.
  3. Install drivers for new motherboard
  4. Bob’s your uncle

Works 99% of the time. Format and re-install is still the best option.
