Installing older copies of purchased software?

I have a client who got a new mac with Office 2011 which comes with Outlook. Unfortunately they still have an Exchange 2003 server which is not supported by Outlook 2011.

Is the client entitled to install Office 2008 if he has a legal copy of Office 2011 or does he need to try and find a second hand copy someplace?

Im sure that micro**** will expect them to upgrade the whole system to sort out the situation, you are probably not allowed to sell 2nd hand software, so what the actually saying is pirate the software. But they allow you to do the vist downgrade so im not actually sure but i would feel justified in doing what you said. They looking for the real bad guys the guys doing pirate software so if you make an effort, i reckon you fine.

morkhans... I remember ages ago, gave microsoft a call for a bunch of clients who were running 98se - pirated copies.... and wanted to go legal, they were allowed to buy an xp license and use Win 98 on that licencse.... give them a call...

Use propriety software except to stick to the rules or pay for the upgrade, simple as that.

Thanks for the comments so far. Personally I don't see an issue with paying for the current equivalent release and installing an older one to retain compatibility with existing infrastructure. Obviously for a client you need to tread more carefully.

I know with the Vista mess Microsoft relented and allowed people to downgrade to XP, but I'm not sure if it applies to all their applications.
