When I turn my computer on, I have to wait at least 2 minutes for it to authenticate etc. before I connect. I have Linksys Router WAG54G. Some experts say that with 24/7 one is constantly on-line and there is no wait time.
Please explain as I am confused.
Thanks.

are you initiating your pppoe connection from the router of from the PC?

I don't know. Had an IT guy do it. Please explain difference. When I asked some other
computer expert about this, received following reply:
"The added time with the router should not have been very long, but there will be some time to load the needed drivers and establish the wireless link - this has nothing to do with the internet which is permanently available."
Would value your opinion.

Hi Sorella
You have 2 ways of connecting to Telkom -
a. using your wag54g router to initiate and maintain the connection. This should be configured as "always on" and as soon as your computer has finished booting your internet connection should be available.
b. using your wag54g router in bridge mode, in which case the authentication must happen from your pc after it has finished booting.

the easiest way to tell which is applicable to you is : do you have to logon to telkom first from your pc before you can browse the net? In other words, do you have a connection you must click on on your desktop or elsewhere that forms your connection? if this is the case, b. above applies to you.
if you can browse straight away, then a. applies to you.
if you can tell me which case scenario applies to you, i can help you optimise the connection.
cheers-
