It says it measures your heartbeat ... anyone know now accurate it is? Am I gullible? ;)

Think it works?

I'm around 80 ... wanna go for a run to double check. Comments seem to indicate it works !

my resting heartbeat is generally below 60 so it seems accurate enough.

i was sceptical. did a bit of reading.
apparently it shines the flash permanently, which lights up your finger, giving the camera (video stream i presume) an orange hue.
because blood flow changes with your pulse, it measures the differences in hue over time, and extrapolates heart rate.
would need to compare to a proper monitor to gauge accuracy.
i tried with a reddish inanimate object, it registered, but couldn't lock a pulse.

I compared it to my Polar reading, it's not too bad. The IHR was on 45 and my actual heart rate was 50, but would need to test it at a variety of heart-rates to get an accurate assumption.

Seems to work, but generally colour of finger determines amount of oxygen in blood. Guess it checks oxygen content.

Used it when I was sick and checked manually with my pulse. It's generally in the ball park, maybe a few beats off here and there. Use as a guide I say . Its quite good.

Don't press finger hard over cam, just lightly. Also my gf has a lot darker skin, took a while to pick up her pulse. I assume because light was harder to shine through the darker pigment ?

Me... I'm a pink ou so it works well :p
