I just got a quote from LawnPro. R8500 for 82m2 of LM grass - this, I think, includes preparing the area with some fertilizer.

It seems like an excessive price to me.

Can anyone recommend anyone who could provide good service and a better price?

Down here you can get 82m2 from the, uhm, grass farm for about R1600 - but the your weekend will suck.

Yeah, have enough other things to deal with on weekends etc. Need someone to do the entire thing. But I think R8.5k sounds unreasonable.

For that money you might as well just get a synthetic lawn and save yourself all the drama.

I did +-30sqm earlier in the year for R2600 and that included all the labour, tearing out the old garden, carting soil away etc etc.

So roughly the same price... Who did you use?

I recently used lawnforafrica (http://www.lawnforafrica.co.za). They did a great job and were much cheaper than other places. They have a 100sqm minimum but I also did around 80sqm so they just charged me a small additional fee.

Thanks, will check them out. Actually remember seeing them from my original google search, but their website put me off. Word of mouth does the trick though - thanks.

Maybe these guys could help the poster of "Ingrown pubes"

Why not DIY...? it ain't difficult. Just get a coupld garden executives, some hoes (not, not THAT kind), spades, rakes etc.... Tear the ground apart, and plant new seedlings as purchased from your local nursery.

Will take a lil longer to grow, but far cheaper.

What's with the instant gratification of a lawn anyways?

I agree. Last year Apr I lifted 50sqm of run down paving . worked in about a bakkie load of compost and planted 4 boxes of buffalo plugs . all in all was less than R1.5K. 1st month lots of watering though but now i have the envy of most visitors. Took about 6 months to cover everything. There WAS a patch that took a while but it was a very shady area. Now i dont even water with hose anymore. just backwash the pool onto it for a minute every week. Kids love playing firemen ( in summer ).

I agree, this is health WEALTH... increase your wealth, and improve your health by doing it yourself. So much more satisfying too.

We have two dogs that run up and down the lawn all day, I've tried planting seedlings in some of the worn out areas but they won't take properly because of the high traffic. My hope is that laying established grass will be a hardier option and might be able to handle the punishment from the dogs. It's also a shady area so will take quite some time, I'm looking to rent out this property because have recently bought and I'd like a quick solution for the new tenants.
