thats what my pc says and i could not get into my pc since this afternoon sometime. my pc said 63mb physical memory. i could not delete programs as i could not get into anything.

i have rebooted my pc i don't know how many times and pushed every button just to be able to get on the web to ask what is happening here and how to i rectify this problem.

My pc said 63mb physical memory this may indicate that one of your ram missing. If u start up how much ram do u have, also check the bios.
what happens when u start up in Safe mode.
Win xp min Req is 128meg ram.

i have managed to delete some programs i am not using other than that i have no idea what to check or where to check these things but from what you have just said i think its the ram thing that does not have enough megs to actually run a program.

it's 64megs as far as i know (since i installed xp Home editition once on a pc with 64megs of ram)

as i am typing here i minimised the window and tried to open another programme and it tells me the same thing, insufficient system resources.

Go into your bios at startup and see how much ram your bios is detecting. I have seen this many times in the past. 2 Things that might have happened. The ram could be improperly seated or some of the chips on the ram itself could have went bye-bye. If that is the case, the bios will show you what slots have the 'faulty' ram. Turn off the PC and just re-seat the ram in those slots and hope they start to work when you start up again. Might also help if you take the ram out totally and just let it cool for about a few minutes - works wonders. If not, you will probably need to replace them.

Have you had any memory problems before, or did this start suddenly?

Yikes

and I'm throwing 128mb chips away.

XP needs at least 512mb to run smoothly.

Slightly off topic but I have to agree. I had XP running on many machines with 128MB and it was terrbile. Once worked on a machine that had XP and 32MB ram, that was a true nightmare.

Back on topic, it sounds like some ram has gone missing, so follow the advice of some of the above posts. Should hopefully sort out the problem.

Good luck :)

i tried all night to get this pc working even deleting programs. i have about 32 gigs on my hard drive left but its the ram thats the problem from what i can understand.

tonight i switch on and everythings fine.

i went to matrix warehouse on the way home and they say thek will put a second ram card in for me and another hard drive ( both from a non working pc) so i think that may sort it out...hopefully.

i went to that blue screen thing at the beginning when i start up and went to the bios section and boy all those fancy words reminded me of something DJK would write.

thanks all for the help.

what is ashWebSv.exe and ashServ.exe as the first one is using 46.416k of memory and the 2nd one is using 22.276 k memory.

i am also running Opera which is using 33.164k.

must i switch\end process these things to get more memory?

so they put an old harddrive in this pc for me yesterday and when i boot up this hard drive comes up first where as i did not want to use it as my first/primary settings (sorry i don't know what its called), i just wanted this as my storage place.

i think this second harddrive is the primary one now for some reason in the bios (will have to check again) and as its set like this my pc shuts down when i log off but i can still hear a whirring noise coming from it.

how do i change this?
