What's the best way to do this to prevent heat loss?
Double glazed doors are too expensive. I already have heavy curtains but the room still gets very cold.

Ask about "low E" glass. Not cheap, but far cheaper than double glazing.

I was thinking more along the lines of placing something over the existing glass without having to change the glass?

I would imagine a layer of vinyl on both sides of the glass would likely help and not cost to much if you diy. (sandblast finish vinyl will look good and is very easy to apply as an example and if you want thicker vinyl get sandblasting vinyl).

Just make dead sure there are no air leaks at the edges of the doors.

Are the gaps sealed properly?

That's normally where the most loss occurs.

Get yourself some sheets of the large bubble wrap, cut to size of the glass then using a spray bottle you can apply a thin mist layer to the glass and the bubble wrap will stick to that.
