Am I allowed to take my vehicle to the repairer of my choice or do I need to take it to the insurance's preferred service provider.

My choice : Take it to the manufacturer for part replacements and the panel beater of my choice for spray work. I assume spray work will have to be approved by manufacturer as vehicle has a maintenance plan.

At this point it seems that my choice will work out cheaper than insurance's preferred service provider but insurance agents and investigator are "guiding" me towards their service provider as they only want to handle one invoice.

Input would be appreciated. (Insurer - Red I solutions)

You have to do what the insurer wants as they are paying the bill ultimately.

They don't care that it will be cheaper to follow your route though. I managed to save my insurer over R7k on an accident I had earlier this year, and the response I got from them was "Thanks, but please let the assessor handle this"...which in my books is basically "Stop looking at the numbers, we don't actually care"

Why not get your motor dealer to handle it?

On my vehicle a part needed to be replaced under warranty.
The dealer ordered, had it colour coded (spray), fitted and tested.

That way the dealer pays the sprayers, and insurance only pays 1 place.

If it can be done for warranty then surely it can be done in a similar manner to preserve the motor plan, waranties etc...

It's not necessarily the insurance that will dictate where you repair, but the manufacturer.

In our case, for example, you can only have your car repaired at Subaru Approved Panel Beaters and in Durban you have a massive choice of two. :)

Depends on insurance companies. I know Alexander Forbes let's you use anyone you want. As long as it's Manufacturer approved.

V - thanks . will discuss that with manufacturer.

My question - is this the attitude of lazy/scaly agents or the bean counters?????

Combination of both if you ask me.. It really piss ed me off though since it directly effects the excess I have to pay.
