Insurance Costs

Insurance company had sent an assessor to check us out when I wanted 1m contents cover. She was as sharp as a tack. Picked up all the expensive items and things we have not even considered in kitchen and rest of house. Even some stoneware - we forgot it was worth 25K (wedding present) and not really used

We also forgot about clothes etc. Guess what:- Wife's traditional clothes are at least 250k - replacement value. Stuff collected over years and years. I wear mr.p home or pick and pay clothing, but even then, at least 20k. Shoes are bloody expensive to replace.

Top tip to everyone:- open all your cupboards and walk around recording it, and describing what it is. Save the video to the cloud. Will help if you ever have insurance claim issues. I do this once a year.

Edit: Fixed up really poor grammar (which I had written from phone)

@Dolby just wanted to add who ever your insurance provider is is being a bit unscrupulous. The rubble removal architectural fees etc. when having to rebuild a home is usually included in your sum insured.

Something along the lines like this:

House insured for R1 000 000.00
Rubble Removal - 20% of Sum Insured
Fire Brigade Charges - Reasonable costs
You should see all of this on your schedule. Here is an example of how an Old Mutual Insure one would look. Other insurers put it in the policy wording.

I know this is very late but useful info.
