So who would you call if your under 25 and drive a High Performance vehicle.
Ive gone the normal route and some even refuse to help me out :(

depends on how long you've had your licence and what "high performance vehicle" you're driving. can't you get someone else as the regular driver and yourself as a named driver?

Well its an Opel Astra OPC Plus Pack. Had my License for 5 years.
Im 23 years old and will be finacned through wesbank.
If I finance the vehicle do I not have to do the insurance ?

Young folks in high performance cars are an insurance nightmare, don't expect it to be affordable. Just get a quote from a range of companies and go with the cheapest reputable one.

Well i have been driving a GTC 2.0 Turbo for the last two years and it was expensive but I was ok with it. The First quote I got for an OPC was R 2k whaha

Outsurance etc..
Other Brokers ..

I'm with TuffStuff with the 4x4..
Polo TDi .. Outsurance

I understand that I will need to have insurance but can I not get my Father to do it. However, I will be the guy financing the vheicle, surely I will have to do the insurance myself? Correct me if im wrong though.
Look, Everyone thought I was going to write myself off when a bought my GTC. I dont drive fast, I just enjoy nice cars :) BUT, try telling the insurance guys this haha.
I also have my advanced driving certificate.

Can do it under father's name aswell as long as You are Covered for driving the car
iow Regular Driver of Car is you...

i Know the feeling .. Bought a 1.6 Si Focus as a Runabout...
Outsurance DialDirect etc.. R4000... "Does this include the vehicle finance" hahaha

Ok cool!

Ill try FNB, ABSA and see if I can do it under my fathers name. What if he just puts me as the secondry driver. Would that work too?

Maybe, but best would be Primary Especially with Outsurance..
Been through it learnt the lesson... R40k Bill later..

ABSA etc. are better if i remember correctly they aren't that strict, but just check with them.

I promise I did NOT read this thread before I said what I did in the thread about finance charges...I rest my case! :D

Miway gave me a full quote for R1160 for a Ford Figo 1.4 Ambiente. I'm 26 years old and live in Centurion in Pretoria. I think this amount is too much, what do you guys think?

Dude...call up FSP solutions...they do broker work for MiWay...as stupid as it sounds...my car is considered a hig performance vehicle, they quoted me R800ish when I called MiWay directly, through the FSP guys, I'm now at R634.28 pm lol...I also just played it out and asked them a quote for a 3.2 GT...R800pm!!!

Sorry, unless your dad IS THE RIGHTFULL owner of the car, meaning, the car is in HIS name financed or not...he won't be able to PROXY for you...sorry dude been there done that, but try them...these people are very shrewd in their ways, what works for me might not for you.

OPC is a boss car btw!

Dude, on another note...how's the petrol usage on your OPC? Hows the boot space? How's the dealer network?

@Mypro: You can have it insured under a parent's policy but you have to be specified as the primary driver and as a result the policy will be higher than if you were the secondary (or infrequent) driver. Would compare what you get this route with what you would independently because (1) if you have an accident and claim, it will cause a loss of any no-claim bonus and increase in premiums for the insured and (2) getting insurance earlier means you should get better premiums quicker. I include the last point because when you finally want to get your own cover, one question they will ask is: how many claim free years have you had cover? Sure, years insured as the primary driver will count but not as much as years with your own cover.
