Been a while since I had to wrap my head around this one.

When you develop a system one would think that you need to have validations, checks and balances. Hell even a bit of recon to ensure that data coming in and going out is good and as it should be. However, there is always this one client who bemoans the fact that it creates work from them. Further down the line some even ask you to remove it and you have to apply tough love, because they are simply unable to reasonably agree or see why it is there in the first place.

I suppose it can also be the shining light on their lack of discipline; or malpractices being unearthed.

Initial option is always good to just let them go, but sometimes you'd have to work with them, in that scenario enough pressure towards that person from outside and/or from within the company should fix it?

You validate data against a schema. If that is at the heart of your system, it protects your data and ensures a minimum level of quality throughout the lifespan of the model.

As for the client, did they sign off? Then the responsibility is on them to honor their word.

Removing it, means removing the system, or at least rewriting it. Is client going to pay for a rewrite.
