What is the difference between the two cpu's? for instance the

AMD Athlon64 x2 5000+ Dual Core CPU - Socket AM2 which is R3217

and

Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 CPU - Dual Core - Socket 775 R10048?

looks to me they have almost the same cpu power except for amd's one which is about 300mhz out?

also what i would like to know is when i upgrade again, for gaming purpouses what would u guy's suggest between these two cpu's? i don't see any difference maybe u can? which will be better for gaming?

thanks!

Intel kicks AMD would be the easiest way to put it.

Even the E6600 kicks AMD's top CPU

actually shizzler intel bottom of the range core 2 e6300 kicks the amd fx 62 when i overclock

i got it running at 2.79ghz from 1.8, they overclock really well

just dont ever buy an intel board

well most of the intel boards dont have overclocking firstly

secondly if you find one that does they dont overclock very well at all

Ok. So the Intel is the best CPU then.

What motherboard is the best?

Its more chipset than motherboard these days although going with brands like ABit etc assures better components used.

Just don think this forever please.. there are enough Intel fanboys..

AMD's initial 64 bit CPU's blew Intel completely out of the water. So Their next chip might do the same, you never know. But Intel seems to be onto something with their Core range.

btw, to the original post. You may have noticed that Mhz means nothing anymore. Everything is getting clocked lower at Intel now, as they realised this gives better results.

killa, cant really agree with you 100% on that one. There are 2 intel boards that are very decent overclockers. These being the Bad Axe and Bad Axe 2 both running on Intel 975X chipset. Running an E6600 at 3.3GHz on it. That is not even pushing it yet. still gonna push it a lot further, just dont have time yet.

Otherwise, all other intel boards are indeed crap if you want to overclock.

my other baby is a Asus P5W DH, and that i have pushed to 420 FSB on a E6300. Going to push it further, just took my time re-mounting the northbridge cooling on Artic Silver 5, and installing some additional fans before I up the MCH voltage.

If you want ultimate overclocking look to boards featuring nVidia 680/650 chipset (but avoid ASUS striker) as they are by far better chipsets than intel's own 9XX stuff...

Once you go NF6 you'll never want anything to do with an Intel chipset again :)

tomshardware.com I trust that site comepletly when I purchased my PC, looking back over 2 years I made a very very good decision. I like AMD and Nvidia chipset boards and graphics cards, very good Linux support.

1. Expensive
2. Full of useless gimmicks
3. Doesn't make over 400MHz!
4. Too in love with the fact that it's an ASUS board and as a result does what ASUS does best these days and that's miss the point completely!
5. It's cheaper brother the P5N32-E SLI is 10X the motherboard for R2K less!
6. Did I mention that it's expensive!

ya but mic y the bad axe is really expensive compared to my gigabyte board

and as far as my overclocking buddie grimmy says that 965 chipset is the best overclocker

mic y my buddie has his e6400 running at 3.4, so yea maybe your intel doesnt clock that well

If I were to choose between only THOSE TWO processors, I would take the 5000+ because who can justify the cost of that x6800? In reality I would take the cheapest or second to cheapest processor of either camp and overclock the hell out of it...

i wouldnt do that at all i would take either the e6300 e6400 or 6600 and overclock it

if you bought the e6300 plus a 1500 or 2k board it would cost the same as a single 5000+ and once you overclock the e6300 to 2.5ghz its faster than the fx 62

965 is better than 975, but NF6X owns them all :D

I wouldn't buy the 5000+ and that's because 65nm 5000+ will be available in this country in Jan already and those clock pretty well, :)

ya but still shock for 3.5k for 5000+ or 1.9k for e6300 that has a decent board will get to 2.7 with air it doesnt make sense buying amd at the moment just because the intels clock so well, better than any amd that will ever be released i think

for the price of a e6300 plus a 965 board it would cost more or less the same as the 5000+ without a board ahhaha

i used to be amd fanboi but not anymore eh

btw, Its a bit stupid to keep on saying you will buy one chip and overclock the hell out of it and then compare it to a stock speed chip and say it beats it.

Obviously this doesn't apply to you because if you were going to OC you would OC the FX-62 as well, and they OC pretty well too. So compare apples to apples in terms of overclocking at least.

but I dont think it changes much, the Core range Intels still beat the AMDs.
