Intel Admits Design Flaw in Sandybridge Chipsets

I'm quite concerned. With new chipsets due to appear after April, why would SB continue to be relevant? Would we be investing in a rickety bridge architecture that few have or want?

I really don't mind accepting a motherboard now as long as I can exchange it for a non-bugged board once they are available. The degradation only occurs over time and on most boards like the ASUS one's you have non-intel SATA chips which will work fine.

Would it be an exchange or a repair I wonder?

I think it'll be an exchange since apparently it's very difficult to correct this, takes quite a bit of effort... I'm not stressing though since it seems I'll only get my 2500K in 2012 and we all know the world will end then anyways, so why worry about a motherboard which won't last 3 years

At the moment I'm furious. I was really looking forward to my Sandy Bridge upgrade since I'm stuck on a Core 2 Duo. But yea S.h1t happens. I'm going to try and order tomorrow which sounds stupid but if the SATA 2 Controller fails then I want a replacement free of charge or maybe just get a SATA PCI card.

Thanks for the link, Landmark. Nice to read an article with a bit of technical substance on the matter. I still reckon it's being blown out of proportion. If you have a board with the chipset, you will get a free update in a few months time, no problemo.
