The last 2 years when my friend bought a intel cpu it was a 2.8ghz P4 with 1mb cashe running at a system temp of about MB 48 and cpu 60 celcius

on the other hand I have a AMD 4000+ 64bit it his a server case with 10x 12cm radius fans that keeps it cool at about MB 38 cpu 45 celcius

the other day at my work they bought a new computer P4 3.0ghz 2mb cashe with 64tech etc Motherboard running at 25 and cpu 28 celsius using only the cpu's fan to keep it cool!?

since then till now it seems like P4 cpu has improved alot... (if i'm right) One of my other friends said that if his gonna upgrade again hill go for P4 cpu's and he was always an AMD fan. I am still one aswell since I got my first AMD in 1999 it was a 700mz not to bad for that time.

My question is; If someone would ever upgrade their pc's again from amd to p4 would anyone consider it? (mostly for gaming aswell) it looks to me P4 cpu's have much improved over the last few years. Usually they had higher temps than amd's (am I wrong?) and were always unstable when playing games...

1. amd chips now are much better than the intel ATM.

2.I have an intel 3 Ghz chip fot the last 2 and half years and is very stable. So don't know where u come with unstable.

3.intel has a new cpu line coming up soon, so rather wait for that... also amd is bringing out an upgrade of their current chips... socket 2 to support ddr2 ram etc.

if you had to choose AMD or P4 what will it be? (for games this year and after)

I got a amd athlon 4000+ dual core (2ghz overclocked to 2.5ghz)cpu temp 32celsuis with cpu fan and 5 others after playing 1hour of bf2

Come on guys. Whats with this pick a CPU based on the temperature it runs at?
I've got a 3.2 Ghz Stoveplate, and yes it runs hot, but I've sorted it out.
I've always been a big AMD fan (excuse the pun), but I'm very happy with my P4.

The major difference for me regarding AMD vs INTEL. It's the bloody number of times Intel changes the socket specs. It pisses me off.

EG. I bought an Intel 915GAV board. It doesn't support a Dual Core Pentium D.
If I'd bought the equivalent AMD (Albiet having to wait about 7 months) I'd be able to upgrade to the dual core.

Being able to upgrade your Intel has always been an issue with me.
I'd definately get an AMD for my next PC. But i'm happy with my P4.

Maybe you want a quiet PC (cant have that with a too hot processor), no annoying buzing, especially from the stock Intel fans. AMD has cool and quiet, works like a dream.

at the moment AMD is the best by far! But i think the conroe will give AMD some trouble. IMO if you have something like a 4000+ which you say you have, I'd wait for AMD's Socket AM2 and Intel's Conroe

Would go for AMD anyday....especially for gaming that~
Unless u wanna run a server....rather upgrade to AMD....
personal opinion of course hehe

AMD gets my vote as well. Really hard to try to convince people that have no idea about computers that anything can be better than pentiums though :p Trust me, i have tried!

Well in the benchmarks so far it is pretty much creaming a highly overclocked FX60 and thats at stock speeds. I am a die hard AMD fan, but if I was looking to buy now I'd wait for the Conroe. Oh and it only uses 65 WATTS power.

thanks for the info I'll go search google alitle bit for more information...
