For those who think iBurst technology is ho-hum, here's a very interesting development, announced today:

Intel press release on 22 June said:
ArrayComm and Intel Collaborate to Bring the Benefits of Smart Antenna Technology to WiMAX

Agreement Targets Improvements to 802.16 System Range, Capacity and Coverage

SAN JOSE, California – Intel Corporation and ArrayComm today announced a collaboration to incorporate key requirements into the IEEE 802.16 standard to improve the protocol’s ability to support smart antenna technology. As part of the collaboration, ArrayComm will develop IEEE 802.16-compliant smart antenna solutions and Intel plans to support ArrayComm’s solution with its future IEEE 802.16e WiMAX client device chipsets. This combination is expected to yield large improvements in overall system range, capacity, and coverage quality for 802.16 networks, offering WiMAX users higher data rates over wider areas.

WBS need to get their network stablised. We know the iBurst technology is great. It's all a question of implementation.

Yeah, it is nice for ArrayComm, and their adaptive iBurst base-station antennas are all fine & well - great stuff :).

When I said iBurst will be outdated in a year or two [perhaps finally stable as well in SA] it is the lack of speed & not the antennas - even Slimothy is bored with his 1Mbits/s, and the moment Vodacom's HSDPA comes bursting in at 2Mbits/s in December 2005, and then WiMax...well you can see why iBurst will be outdated very soon...

ArrayComm's adaptive antennae technology is cool. iBurst's proprietary signalling, as is IPWireless' is ho-hum, and vendor specific.

ArrayCom and 802.16 will be a winner.
