Intel Core X vs AMD Ryzen - South African pricing

Except in this case you buy the Bugatti for R2 mill, and the guy pulls up with a similar but slightly different Bugatti that cost him R3.5 million.

Prices not real, just an example

Intel marginally faster and the 6+ core Skylake-X chips support quad channel memory whereas Ryzen 3/5/7 doesn't - that's not worth the price premium at all though especially when you factor in the motherboard costs.

Looking forward to a Threadripper vs 79xx series showdown.
 
The Intel Core i5-7640X is competing with the Ryzen 1700 lol.
The i7-7740X is competing with the 1700x, not sure which I'd pick considering that the i7-7740X is better for current games, but with future games becoming more multi-threaded, the gap should shrink, which would make the extra 4 cores great (e.g. Team Speak + music running on the other cores).


Intel Core i7-7820X will be competing with threadripper.

If the price for my i7-6700 was 2.7 million and not 2.7 thousand, I've got an uncomfortable discussion with my banker in my future ROFL.

There is really no point for 1700x or 1800x if you know what you're doing. Save a bunch of money and overclock a 1700.

Agreed, I'm just checking price point wise.

Currently gaming/multi-purpose: 1600, 1700, 1800X or 7700K. Though of course all comes down to what price you can get it.
Anything higher than that instantly goes to thread ripper, the i9s just doesn't compete.

Intel are playing catch-up for the first time in a decade. They are now rumoured to release a 6-core dual thread Core i5. Now why would they do that :crylaugh:

Besides the CPU prices the AM4 MBs are also way cheaper than the X299 LGA2066 platform.

Something I don't see mentioned in the article (probably missed it) is that in order to attain the OC on the i7-7800X they had to use an expensive $380 custom water loop as a 240mm AIO did not cut it while the Ryzen CPU will reach 4GHz on air. https://youtu.be/UfNMn7RWgLw?t=20m48s
