Intel pays out to AMD

Whats this the 500th time amd has taken on intel sour grapes if you ask me, i wouldnt be caught dead with an amd.

In May, the European Union fined Intel a record $1.45 billion, and last year, Korea's Fair Trade Commission fined Intel $18.6 million. Intel is appealing both rulings.
but they're settling in the US and Japan ... jawellnofine.

"Yes, we're guilty" (US, Japan)
"We do not accept guilt ruling" (EU, Koera FTC)

go figure.

All of the stuff I wrote are based on facts - have a look for yourself on sites like Wikipedia. This settlement intel is paying just goes to show that what I wrote does carry merit.

intel is terrified of AMD because even though they are much smaller they are also a lot smarter. If intel had their way they would run a CPU monopoly and sell us crap like itanium at prices 10 times more than what we now pay for computers.

They should actually be afraid of ARM and not of AMD.

even if your argument does carry merrit [which it prob does], you can't be taken serious on the forum, as you are not independant.

It's like if PeteCH decides to write his own Apple vs Windows debate, will you take him seriously???? same here....

Good point - but I do not only buy AMD. Give me a VIA or something other than intel and I am happy. Same goes with internet - I'll take anything that is not telkom, be that with a WISP or cellular network. Hope that makes sense...

Cool, hoping the $1B+ is enough to keep AMD aliveuntil their i7/i9 killers come out...

It's like when M$ saved Apple - not because they wanted to, coz they HAD to - if you're a monopoly you attract WAY too much attention!

Actually they have had CPUs using integrated memory controllers for years now. Their focus in the market is bringing out new innovations at a cheaper price. Their current Athlon II X4 is the cheapest quad core around and it scales insanely well. No need to beat over priced chips like i7.

They actually owe AMD much more because it is not only that they pay suppliers not to use AMD, they also steal a lot of AMD ideas and innovations. I am hoping this is only the start. Once they have a 50/50 market share I think intel can stop paying.

AMD's are just the underdog at the moment.

I use both and am happy with both, but think if you support AMD it helps with competition which will drive the processor markets to better speeds, etc.
