Intel Processor differences

Can someone pse explain to me what the difference is between an Intel Core 2 Duo and an Intel Core Duo.
Is the Intel Core Duo actually the Intel Pentium D series or is it the same as the Core 2 Duo.

its like pentium 1 and pentium 2. intel core 2 duo will be much faster than the normal core duo

Intel Core Duo is dual core Version of Centrino.
Its not 64-bit like Core2, only has 2MB cache and 533MHz FSB.
They are/were sold as Mobile parts only with names T2300,2500,2700 etc...
Core Duo Based on Yonah Core and clock for clock is slower than Conroe (2MB version E6300 and E6400 are still Conroe and not Allendale)

Socket 479 and there are only a handful of motherboards (Desktop)that support the CPU. (Aopen i975xa-YDG //Crossfire Capable); Asus VM4L and one other Gigabyte board.
The two mobos sport i945GM NB and Aopen the 975 chipset.

Core 2 Duo is the one to go for. period.
