What's up with the ridiculous pricing of the Intel Quads?
They been around for ages and the price hasn't dropped in the slightest here in SA only escalated by around 30% over the past year.
The exchange rate is bad, and our prices always more expensive, but R1000 more than our American counterparts?

Im looking in particular at the Q6600 which is costing around R2700 here and $189 elsewhere

That's what AMD is for.

Actually it has nothing to do with intel or amd qwik u fanboi.

We get ripped off badly in this country, intel has very good quadcore pricing but with the exchange rate and rip off factor they look expensive.

Even amd's new cpu's are way over-priced in this country, they cost about the same as a q9550 or q9450.

Yup thats direct though juggy, infact intel's quadcore's are cheaper than amd's in this country :).

Guess thats what amd's are for :p, funny how amd's old flagship product the 9950 is around 300 bucks more than the q6600 and performs about the same.

Although amd just dropped their pricing on their new quads because i think they found out the hard way they are over-priced.

I bought at just the right time, October 2008, got a Q6600 from LandMark PC for R2000 +/-... Was just before the whole world went to crappers... :)
