Slowing spending on computers saw Intel profits fall by 90% from $2.3bn to $234m (£159.6m) in the last three months of 2008.

Sales at the world's fourth largest chip maker slumped 23% to $8.2bn in line with the warning the firm gave earlier this month.

And it forecast sales of just $7bn billion in the first quarter of 2009.

Just to add to this. I don't think intel will be cutting their prices too much in the future with this sort of news. Price wars are not a good idea for a recession.

I read somewhere in Toms that Intel will be cutting prices on Sunday, maybe they scared of Phenom ii :p

Could be but they will just hurt their own bottom line. AMD will have to cut again to keep their pricing under Intel after which Intel will be in the same boat.

Not really abe, i can tell you now if intel was only slightly than amd for their i7's i would not touch amd but considering the price difference when am3 is launched i will be moving over to that because in a recession you cannot afford to be intel right now, good product shoddy price, amd have an awesome cpu now at very good pricing.

Intel are screwing themselves by trying to screw us.
