Meh... They lost me at Skylake after CPU's stopped shipping with fan and heatsink.

The problem is the CPU perforamcne gain isn't that significant between generations anymore. You can offload a lot of the tasks that a CPU use to do to other chips e.g. USB controller, GPU, APU. The only benefit may be power management and faster memory controllers.
