I am a professional working full time doing systems admin (linux) and programming on multiple platforms. Recently I have moved over to development of apps for mobile devices (mostly Ipad, Iphone and Android stuff) and finished my third app today.

I think it is time to start sharing the knowledge I've built up during the past 20 years - is there any community center or school out there that is close to the Claremont area in the Western Cape that needs a tutor for kids? I can't do anything full-time but I am willing to set aside a bit of time every week for free to help educate those kids who are really interested in the subject of programming and computer science in general.

I have no teaching qualifications whatsoever but I think I can do a good job nonetheless. I would need internet access for the students as well as basic PC's. Just thought I would put it out there, if anybody is interested contact me.

Most likely it would be after hours and/or over weekends, unless my company decides to get involved as well.

OPS: please move this post to the correct area if there is some place more appropriate with high visibility.

IMO that's way too steep a learning curve for kids. iOs and objectve C is more suitable to usergroups.

Rather start kids off with Alice.

No, I am thinking HTML5 + JS - with a drag and drop RAD environment. I taught my girlfriend in 15mins (she's never even SEEN a line of code in her life) how to make an app with 4 screens and we immediately generated the IPA and had it on my Ipad a few mins later. That is where the future lies. Teaching Objective-C is a dead end when it comes to other platforms. My honest opinion - teach kids skills that are cross-platform.

EDIT: Naturally I had the UDID of the device registered with Apple beforehand and I have a open developer's license.

skimread - thanks for the Alice link. I watched the video and read the documentation - basically it is Logo on drugs. :) Awesome. Useful software for kids, I agree with you.
