Hello Everyone,

I found a guy on wiiza.co.za who is interested in doing a group buy. Here is his post.

Hi All
With overwhelming responce to the ad, i've worked out how much its gonna cost in total

No of units
10 21 51
$177 $156 $136

So far i've got 13 guys interested so i will only be able to take the 1st 10 guys that emailed me and people close to where i am in gauteng.

Its gonna work out to be Roughly R1500-R1600 with shippping to S.A, also hopefully the exchange rate stays down so we all can benefit smiley

If i can get 20 guys then it will be all the more cheaper for all of us so email me and i will reply [email protected]... its with a 0 btw

thing here is trust .. but what i have found is that SA gamers are very trustworthy ... cool bunch of dudes and some dudettes ...

From what I know he needs about 8 more people to reach 21 peeps. Not 100$ sure.

Considering it's sold out everywhere, where is he getting it from? Especially at that price.

That's a good question, but it's worth finding out if this guy is legit

How much in customs tax would one have to pay on, say, 20 wiis (weird word)?

How would they tax that? On value and category of goods (eg, 'electronics')? How do you find this stuff out?

I find when it comes to tax on stuff sent to you, its a bit of a crap shoot. Sometimes you get something adn there is no tax on teh stuff, other times you get taxed through the nose....If I were importing twenty Wii's I would prefer to ship using someone like UPS. This would be quicker and there would be more certainty. Also I think with guys like UPS they are a little bit more on the ball when it comes to teh calulation of tax, etc.

You could also ship the stuff via surface post, which would be considerably cheaper, but will take much longer. To find out how tax will be calculated, you can call SARS, they are pretty helpfull.

Sometimes customs will not inspect a package and you will therefore not pay duties or VAT. The rate you pay if it is inspected is not however some random amount. It is a fixed percentage and the information is publicly available. You can phone SARS/customs and they will give you whatever information you require. That includes telling you the category under which your item will fall.

It is is highly likely that game consoles carry no more than 5% duties and of course 14% VAT. South African customs duties are in general, and contrary to persistent popular belief, not excessively high in comparison to other countries.

When items arrive by courier the courier company normally decides the categories and levies the required amounts, but their assessment is checked by customs.

You may run into issues with customs if your cargo is over R20,000 and they believe you are importing for commercial purposes. I don't recall the exact rules around this because I have only ever had one shipment run into snags.
