For some perspective on what is physically happening to the Seaom cable, (if/when your bandwidth returns) get hold of the Discovery Channel 'Mighty Ships' documentary - featuring a new cable-laying vessel, the "Tyco Resolute". Although the doccie features some area of South/Central America, it gives a great explanation of how they bury, pick up and splice an undersea cable (all in glorious HD).

You don't perhaps have the nzb file laying around? The 3 'Mighty Ships' episodes I can find don't make mention of the ship in question. :(

Is this episode solely dedicated to the Tyco Resolute or are there other ships covered as well?

Lyning in SMST harbour permanently is the SS CABLE RESTORER which was used to repair the telephone between SA and UK. It is now a museum ship belonging to SMST museum.

Don't remember where I got this particular episode....but I think it may have been a torrent. It only concerns the "Tyco Resolute," showing how her crew lays and splices fiber-optic cable off the coast of Costa-Rica.
Shouldn't be too hard to find with google.:D:whistle:

I've just watched it after finding it with Google. Quite interesting. Very hard work goes into laying an undersea cable and to do repairs. In this particular episode, they encounter an electricity leak due to cable damage. The actual hole in the cable, which caused the leak, was about the size of a thumb nail. But yeah, it's not such as easy as we think. All I can say to those guys is: respect :D
