I've found that if i just leave torrents connected a lapse in the shaping appears.

Now pretty much what i've gathered is that the shaping prevents you from connecting to peers/seeds. I've found that once every couple of hours, the shaping system lapses and allows a fcku-load of connections. once the connections are active, downloading is full-speed. Don't even use a proxy for torrents any more

well done for spilling the beans- I do believe I discovered it first though and I've been using this trick since I got iBurst. Nonetheless TheRodent and others will now come here and tell me I am an idiot

I've also noticed brief lapses, giving better speeds - although on average I get 900bytes consistently via torrents - so 'bursts' and 'lapses' creating blistering fast speeds of 4KB don't really help me.
I tend to dive into the IBurst dc++ to send things at 20-40KB, just to make myself feel better and use up IBurst b/w. Can move 2-4gigs a day on local Hub to other IBursters, but havent seen over 4KB via 'normal' torrents in a long time.
*phones Telkom again to check on processing of ADSL request* :)

when i am on DC++ i get download speeds of 700b which is pathetic

Hi Craig.

Is this between u and other iBurst users? You should be getting at least 20KB/s.

rebel - usage of 'real' b/w (ie stuff I actually wanted from international) was around 7 gigs d/l, wouldve been much more, but with no dc++ or torrent speeds, thats all I could get. Upload - almost entirely to local ibursters - around 15 - 20 gigs or more :P
If I cant get any useful speeds from IBurst, may as well kill time enjoying high speed sends for those who want it..

I will do nothing of the kind. However you were here pointing your finger at WBS and shouting incompetence. When I suggested that the problem might lie between the keyboard and monitor... Well. Everyone makes mistakes. Even I have, on a few occasions. Insinuating that you are incompetent is probably one of those. Accept my apologies if it offended, unfortunately the thread was closed before I could respond.

However, be prepared to receive what you give. This is what forums are. Nobody from WBS was around to present their view on your Squid error message, but I had an answer, which I posted. The iBurst forum has a lot of tension and emotion running through it, granted. Don't let that cloud what this forum is about. This forum is about discussing issues related to broadband.

Just remember that I don't hate you Kei, and I don't intend to incite hate from you either. I think you're a pretty well informed person and your contributions here have been of use to the community in general.

But nobody can know everything. (note that I didn't say 'noone' there ;) ). Relax. Parry around the arguments. Count to 10 before posting. Admit when you've been out-argued. Vehemently defend your view if you believe it has merit.

But whatever you do, don't let emotion overrule your rational mind.

Rebel , yes between fellow ibursters i get 700b/sec which is slower than teaching a baboon how to do maths

craigsa, try experiment with all the different ibursters you can (if you havent already) - I found that with some people its a useless exercise, and with others I can easily get >30KB d/l's..
otherwise.. *looks for the adsl number* :) (yeah I know you cant use it where you are :P

I see more iBurst problems ...

I am so glad I am on dial-up modem right now ... downloaded this weekend about 800MB from P2P, while chating and browsing as well quite a lot, without a hassle ... it just works, real 24x7, unlike iBurst!

ha ha ha, just can't help myself telling over and over again what a crap iBurst (or rather WBS) is!!!

if there are lapses with the bandwith manager that you benifit from its not a good idea to post about them, kiss your torrent speed goodbye :)

don't worry slim, I bet they have no idea how to "fix" the problem!

true.

Incidentally I was greeted with quite a sight on Saturday morning where I live... Telkom pulled in cables, meaning I can get ADSL now if I want to. Apparently someone in the complex applied for a phone middle last year and threatened to sue if it wasn't installed by yesterday!

But I won't get ADSL... not a chance! I don't support the MONOPOLY

Kei, rather wait for more broadband providers (at least 2 years IMO). Don't give your money to those devils.

Finally someone who sees my POV....

iBurst works well for us ATM, so it's fine for what I use it for and I can certainly carry on with it until better offerings come around (if ever- right now it's looking bleak)

Package 3 gig cap
uploaded 2.59 Gig
downloaded 13.49 Gig
Total 16.07 Gig
Date 8 June

2 Gig a day....
Keeps misery away ....
here come the BSA ...
if they only knew how much traffic I did in May....

now now boys you know you can't beat my bandwith stats, so how about you zip your little e-peepees in your pants and go play with some lego
