Between April 2007 and March 2008 there were 14 201 hijackings in South Africa. That's 39 per day.

SA's Top 10 hijacked cars

* Toyota Hiace
* Nissan 1400
* Toyota Hilux
* Toyota Venture
* Isuzu KB
* Toyota Corolla
* BMW 3 Series
* Nissan Hardbody
* VW Citi Golf
* Mercedes C Class

Unless they give a year for the car, the figures can't relate to what we're driving now. A 1989 VW Polo is different to a 2009 one in terms of security or even attractiveness to hijackers.

:D You don't really need a year for the Citi Golf though.
True, that's 25 yr old technology:p. I do know that Hijackers are fussy. They'd rather have an old 316i than a new 3 series BMW ; for example.

newer cars are also more likely to have tracking units, so they might be more reluctant to go for the newest models. The older cars are generally also easier to strip and easier to sell for parts.

Oh Claude & Percy! Just about every reliable make is on this list. These hijacker syndicates don't play.

Why don't they want French style over substance, in the form of the Renaults, Peugeots & Citroens of this world? Some people are g@tvol & leaving theirs unlocked in the hopes they get stolen...
