This is a question for all you GPS buffs out there. I have some software which interfaces with Google Earth using the KML format. It works great since you can setup Google Earth to periodically read the KML files. When you update these KML files your positions within Google Earth are then automatically updated the moment Google Earth reads this file. This solution took a few hours to develop and it works like a charm as you can even have the KML file stored on a web server somewhere.
However, now I need to start looking into supporting MapInfo as well. I have never used MapInfo and neither am I in touch with the various mapping technologies out there. I have noticed that MapInfo supports interfaces such as MapX, MapExtreme and MapBasic. This looks way to complicated for what I want to achieve. I honestly just need to be able to update the position of an existing object within MapInfo. Does it have a similar solution to Google Earth or will I simply have to take the plunge and start working with one of the above mentioned interfacing methods?
