Good day all,
Maybe someone can help me.
I have got a Prepaid MTN 3G Modem (those little black ones)
I am connecting fine, no problem, but have terrible interference over my speakers.
It sounds like cellphone is nearby(you know, like with a car radio) but there is none. It keeps on making that sound, especially if i am talking over Skype with mic and webcam. My dad says it is the modem doing it. It also makes the sound if i am just in the internet browsing.
It does not matter how far away i put the modem from the PC and speakers, it is still doing it. Any advice? :confused:
 
Do you have the Sahara desktop speakers? I got the Sahara desktop speakers on my office pc and also got radio Interference problems, the quality of the amp in the speakers is very bad
 
Sounds like the modem is not running on 3G but on GSM (probably EDGE). I've found the interference is much less when using 3G compared to GSM. Also, USB speakers are the worst when it comes to susceptibility to this kind of "interference". AC powered pc speakers work much better.

But first try and see if you can set the modem to use the 3G band only.
 
Another suggestion. Get yourself a USB extension cable, connect the modem to it and separate it from your PC speakers.
 
Thing is... that little black thingie-ma-jeeg... that modem thingy...

it IS a phone... just without the screen and keypad etc.
It will under certain conditions cause severe interference with old monitors, speakers with bad quality amps, cables, etc, and pretty much anything else susceptible to EFI/RMI.

The worst of it will be when your signal is rather low, and the device keeps searching for better signal from other towers. This searching and switching causes a LOT of interference.
 
Thank you to all answers, here is what i can feed back, No it is not Sahara speakers, but is USB conected. It does run on MTN EDGE, and i already have a USB extension, and still it has interferance. I am going to move the PC to another part of my house. Maybe it will get better signal there. What else can i try?

You can try to bundle together the cable of the speakers. They act as antennas that receive the GSM signal. If you make the "antenna" smaller or inefficient the interference will be reduced. Try to maximise the distance between the modem and speaker cables.
 
Hi again. I moved my PC today and guess what.... the noise is gone!! and also, now the modem is running on 3G (light blue light) Thanks for all the advise!! Chow for now!! Another Q: What good simulation games are out there? Like CSI?? I Love those type of games
 
I have a bedside clock radio that used to wake me up at all times of the night when my cellphone was too close to it. I eventually had to disconnect the speaker to stop it from happening. It was either cellphone or radio :mad:

same prob here. I have to place my phone in exactly a specific location/orientation to not pick up interference
